Faux Health

Some people seem to think that they're automatically healthy if they're vegetarians. Not really. Though it's good that they refuse to eat the flesh of others, there are still an endless stream of possibilities to become one of those unhealthy vegetarians who mostly live on cheese and fries. eHow has listed the most unhealthiest vegetarian dishes:

Cheese Pizza

  • Cheese pizza can be a fun family option for vegetarians as it may please adults and kids alike. Cheese pizza is among the highest calorie foods, due to the amount of cheese and bread used in making the pizza. A Personal Cheese Pizza from Pizza Hut contains 640 calories and 27 grams of fat, which is nearly half of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of fat.
  • Pasta with Sauce

  • While pasta alone may not be a high-calorie food, adding various sauces that include butter, cream or oil can greatly increase the caloric total. Pasta with pesto sauce and pine nuts is an example of a high-calorie and filling food. Pesto sauce is typically made from fresh basil, grated cheese, olive oil, and pine nuts. A cup of cooked pasta is approximately 220 calories and a serving of pesto sauce is around 230 calories as well. If you add other nuts to the pasta, such as walnuts, the total calories can be around 530 calories per serving.
  • French Fries

  • French fries can be considered a vegetarian food, as they are made from potatoes. However, the process of frying them and adding salt makes them a high-calorie option. A large portion of French fries from McDonalds contains 500 calories, 25 grams of fat and 350 milligrams of sodium.
  • Chocolate

  • Chocolate can be a delicious part of any diet, including a vegetarian diet, but it can be high in calories. Some chocolates are even vegan, which means they are made only from plant sources. Calories in chocolate can vary from 150 to 300 per chocolate bar, and more for chocolate cake (350 calories per serving). A slice of Chocolate Chip Cookie Molten Cake at Chili's Grill and Bar has up to 1240 calories per serving, with 64 grams of fat.

  • I tell you, it's a lot easier to be healthier when you're vegan since you exclude dairy which is one of the fattiest things we eat. However, there are still vegans who feast on bread, fries and vegan cupcakes. We're not perfect. But damn close!
